The first part of this song, I wrote for a comic I'm working on (I wont say much more in that regard for now) and I wanted to expand it into a more full song for my own purposes, but I let it sit for a month or two. Before I finished it, I had just finished writing a song that was kind of whiny and negative (called "Plans," which you may or may not have heard before). Sometimes we need to write songs like that, it's true, but afterwards I felt like that song needed an answer, and out came this one. Keep going, don't give up, something good WILL come along. Keep those eyes shiny.
lyrics
I'm gonna be strong,
I'm gonna be brave,
I'm gonna take the world by storm.
I'm gonna fight,
I'm gonna fight!
I'm gonna fight
against
myself and
I'm gonna win.
Down in the valley nurse the wound that I was hiding
There are teardrops in my eyes from the wind that I've been fighting
And I told you that I didn't feel a thing that happened to me
So that I could be alone with my sorrow and an oak tree
and oh oh oh
oh oh oh
I will fight, fight fight,
I wont stop, stop stop
And every time I notice I've been standin' in a shadow
I can stare into the light and shoot my mind out like an arrow
I could hold my guts, i could whine and sigh and bellow,
or I could smile at the life that I been living all the while
and oh oh oh
oh oh oh
I will fight, fight fight,
I wont stop, stop stop
I heard life calling from the bottom of a river
So I climbed up on a mountain so that I could try to see her
And I gathered up my courage and I gathered up my wit
and I shouted down across the valley that I was part of it!!
OH OH OH etc.
As I sit down to rest, and you ask what had happened
I looked in to your eyes and couldn't stop myself from laughing'
You sit and you wonder about the things that happened to me
well I will try to tell you, but I will mask it in a story
