This is the oldest song on the EP. I think I wrote it in 2009... all the other tracks I wrote no earlier than June 2011. This one initially was going to be about a man who dies and watches his wife live, as a ghost. It's still kind of about that, but it mostly just became about an old love, at the end of these lover's lives. It's supposed to be a duet, but since I didn't have anyone around to sing the lady part, I just did it all myself and omitted the harmony at the end. Someday, I'm sure, we will hear it as a proper duet.
lyrics
When I was young, I met a man
and he is now a ghost
Our love was strong, and we grew old
and then one day he left
(he said)
"I'll see you in the mornin' time"
but he did not come back
I'll see you on the morrow dear,
he lied, he next day left
I stare into the night time
I wonder if you're there
I wait in the silence
Desperate to hear
some sign of you living
and laughing
once more
But I'll smile no matter what
Our house is old as we are
Our children have moved on
Forgive me dear, I've left you
Alone in this world
But I'm still here, around you
In all your memories
My body may be gone, now
as my spirit lingers on
You've not long to wait now
We'll be together soon
Try to be strong now
don't be consumed
By the grief of me leaving
this beautiful earth
I'll see you when the time is right
The time is here, life ending
As another one begins
You travel to the unknown
hoping for some grace
and now we're here together
now it's time to leave
this world behind and enter
some place, and hope for peace
I never believed in heaven,
I don't know what's next
But our time's just beginning
it's time that we've left.
we're here, in the morning
the day now is young
I've waited, I've waited, for you.
